What makes a successful Facebook group

A Facebook group is made with the purpose of bringing people who share similar interests, in order to build a community. In order for a Facebook group to be successful, it has to be kept active. Many factors go into doing so. Such as having a strong leader, rules and regulations, and overall active participation from members. Most groups on Facebook require permission from the admin to enter, where they will ask you questions on why you are interested in joining this specific group. This is done to avoid trolls or cyberbullying. Making members feel safe and welcomed is another factor that goes into making a successful Facebook group. Over the years I have joined different groups on Facebook and noticed that they all work a little bit differently. Some are more active than others, some are more formal while others are more informal.

One of the groups I have noticed functions best and is successful of all of the ones I am part of is one called “Canva Lovers — Tips, Tricks and Troubleshooting”. This group is active every day. Members come to this discussion board to ask others questions or for advice on they would use certain features. People also come here with questions when one of their features is not working to see if someone knows an easier fix than contacting Canva support. I have also seen members share advice, free templates, or even funny memes on this page. All of the posts receive engagement from other members by them either liking or commenting on the post. Everyone in this community is always willing to help out or share information, which makes for a strong and healthy community.

Overall the tone of this community is friendly and helpful. The group consists of over 35,000 members all of who have similar interests in social media, graphic design, and marketing or marketing. This is one of the factors that really make this group work. In addition, its strong leader is to thank for this. I reached out to her to see how she has kept such a great group active and successful over the years. “One thing that I do for sure is to make sure we stick to our Group’s purpose which is to help Canva Users with troubleshooting… so we focus on answering questions and helping others resolve their issues with Canva by providing workarounds, tips, and tricks” — Sandee Sevilla. Keeping the purpose of the group the main focus and priority is the best thing an admin can do to ensure that order and engagement is kept. At the end of the day it is also up to the members of this group to feel inspired and welcomed to participate with their peers for the group to be at its most successful point.
